Gold Standard

I recently came across a short news clip that I found pretty entertaining.  The Emirates Palace, one of the top hotels in Abu Dhabi, has taken a bold step in extravagance by installing an ATM-type machine that dispenses not cash, but gold.  Customers can use either cash or a credit card to get small gold bars (up to 10 grams) or coins.  And of course, all the gold is 24-karat.  Here’s the clip:

The earliest mention of the gold dispensing ATM in the news that I could find was from the end of March.  So I decided to see if anyone had registered GoldATM.com.  As it turns out, Oversee.Net, a company that monetizes, registers, sells and develops domain names, registered the domain on April 2.  It seems to me that Oversee is keeping a close eye on the news to determine which domain names to register.  For a company whose business model revolves around attractive domain names, that is a very smart move.
